One of our core values here at My Dream Store is to be a Human brand, ‘To encompass love and gratitude in each interaction we do.’ We are committed to starting this act of love and gratitude right at our office and ensure that we have the best intra-office relationships. For this, we want to learn more about our colleagues. We are hoping that we will get to know some things about our team mates that we didn’t know earlier.
In this series we will be trying to highlight the inner workings of our team by showcasing the people working behind the scenes at My Dream Store.
The third interview in our series is with our Graphic Designer. Introducing *Drumrolls please* Maninder Pal Singh.
Maninder! Introduce yourself…
I am Maninder Pal Singh from Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. I completed my schooling there and did Professional Diploma in 3D Animation & Visual Effects (PD3D) from MAAC, New Delhi. I had 5 years of work experience as a Designer. Now I am working in My Dream Store as a Graphic Designer.
What is one word you would use to describe yourself as a child?
I did a lot of weird and mischievous things in my childhood for having fun and also got beaten for them 🙁
If you could change one thing about how you were raised as a child, what would it be?
I wouldn’t want anything to change because I am happy with the way I was raised. My mom has supported me in every aspect of my life.
What motivates you the most?
I usually set myself some goals in life, whether personal or professional and the happiness I feel after achieving those goals motivates me the most.
Who or what has been the biggest influence in your life?
My Mom has taught me all I need to know to live life. My whole world does not only revolve around her, but she is the most influential person who inspires me.
What contribution have you made in your current role?
As a Graphic Designer, I have to create several designs daily but the most important role is to create posts for social media and promotional material for our merchandise.
Please tell us about your team.
I am working with a team of designers who love to do what they do every day.
Garima Shukla is more like a friend than a manager. She is the most creative person I have ever met and very supporting too. I have learned a lot from her.
Satish Koneri is a really hardworking guy and cooperative too.
How do you think your co-workers see you?
I believe they see a good and supporting team member in me.
Tell me about a time when you had to solve a problem with very little guidance or direction
It happened when both Satish and Garima were on leave and I had to create an Artwork for printing of Amazon Tee. It was my first time creating an Artwork. Most artwork would have about 4-5 colours but unfortunately my first artwork consisted of 8 colours. Even though Garima guided me with the basics over the phone, I still had to struggle a lot to complete that artwork successfully!
Tell us how it is to work for a Start-up?
Working for a start-up will allow you to try on a lot of different things, every weird idea that you may have and never actually think of trying out, may probably turn out to be good. Maybe more important than any other benefit of working for a start-up is the realization that hard work, creative thinking, and tenacity are worth a whole lot.
Once you’ve created something of your own, something tangible and whole, something you can touch, feel, or use, you really begin to appreciate personal ownership.
What more are you wanting in your career right now?
I want to seek brand new experiences while trying different things to update my knowledge and skills.
Tell me about a time when you went overtime on a deadline
Creating Design Studio templates for our website was the hardest work. I had to research a lot to complete that task because that was completely new to me and at that point there were very few resources online. That was a time when I couldn’t finish it on time and had to stretch.
If you started your own company, what values would you consider the most important?
The most important value for my company would be Freedom! I would like Freedom to be a fundamental value in my workplace and would like to celebrate each other’s differences and encourage them to be themselves.
What would a “perfect” day look like for you?
The best time of my life is the time spent with family & friends and my dog “Bolt”.
What do you like best about Hyderabad?
Hyderabad has everything. It’s all happening here! Good food, humble people and a quirky language. I simply love Hyderabad!
If not this, then what work would you be doing?
Most of my family members are in teaching profession. So, I think I would rather be a Teacher if not a Graphic Designer.
Wow! Our colleagues are so multi-faceted! It was great talking to you and learning more.
