Meet Vamsi Madhava, our Star Campaigner has created a sort of My Dream Store record. The Electrical Engineer from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad launched a massive operation with multiple T-Shirt campaigns to celebrate and commemorate BITSians Day, 2015 on 7th August. He launched around 56 campaigns with different T-Shirt designs from which 11 reached its goal and ultimately sold 228 T-Shirts to BITSians old and new! Vamsi has had awesome success and we congratulate him!
We had a small chat with him and below this is the transcribed interview.
Tell us a little bit more about you!
I’m Vamsi Madhava. An Electronic Engineer who worked as a Business Analyst which I then quit to start my Freelancing career in Designing. Now I’m taking my first steps into online Marketing and am all set to pursue Entrepreneurship course from September. To sum it up, I do what I feel like doing 🙂
Where you from are and what are your passions?
I’m from Rajamundry, Andhra Pradesh. I am a complete Internet worshipper and spend about 95% of my time making the best out of Internet, like sharing my ideas, connecting with similar-minded people, etc. Social media is more than just a time killer for me. It’s the main source of my knowledge and is the platform for all my money-making ideas.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
If I find spare time, I jump on to Quora. Also I keep some of the most addictive EDM tracks on loop.
Why did you decide to design a t-shirt?
I could give a Hundred reasons may be, but the feeling that somebody is going to wear your idea on them and carry it along everywhere they go, is the best feeling of all! And nobody ever feels like they have more than enough T-shirts, so if people like it they’ll have it no matter what.
What is your t-shirt about?
We call it the BITSian spirit. It’s for the people have studied or are studying in BITS Pilani, Goa or Hyd.
How did you first hear about us?
Through one of the Facebook Ads I think. I was in one of the targeted Audience. Glad I was 🙂
What was launching your first campaign like?
Simple. Quick. And just a little concerned because at that time My Dream Store offered only one colour choice. However, I am happy that this is no longer the case! (… Your wish is our command and now each T-Shirt can be made in multiple colours)
My Dream Store experience any different from any earlier e-commerce experience?
From the perspective of setting up campaigns, it’s on par with the other platforms. But what really sets them apart was the help from the support team who patiently answered or redirected me through all my painful struggling queries and concerns.
What is the #1 thing that you wished My Dream Store would offer but it doesn’t.
Hoodies. I’ve got a lot of customers mailing me asking for Hoodies. Please add them to the tool soon. (…And that’s exactly what we have Done!)
What’s been the hardest part about selling with My Dream Store? What could we do to make your life easier?
Please make shirt design view better in the product page. On some screens the view shows dissolved design giving it a mediocre appeal. Every other part on your page is pixel perfect.
How did you promote your t-shirt?
I mainly used Facebook to promote my T-Shirts. I posted links to the T-Shirts in various groups, shared them with friends and then advertised through the Facebook page to the relevant audience.
Did you communicate with our customer support team in the process? How was the experience?
It was pleasant. Ashok helped me on a ton of things. Even though there were things which were not under his operation, he made sure to connect me to the relevant person and get my issues solved. It was a nice feeling when Karthik, the CEO himself wrote to me congratulating and asking if he can help me out on any issues. Just shows how the team is majorly invested in helping campaigners reach their goals.
What’s the best piece of advice you could give someone just starting out?
“The best results come to the most creative people.” You’ve just read the most wrongly interpreted quote ever. The best results come to the people who keep on trying – Commit mistakes and learn from them and do one less mistake in their next attempt. These kind of people are just labelled as ‘’Creative.’’
I’m not saying anybody sell t-shirts. But anybody who is willing to learn and apply sure can. Here are few things to keep in mind. You may (and will) fail many times before succeeding but the success wipes out all the previous losses. Keep track of everything possible, the customers’ data (demographics / interests / feedback). Finally use that data, just don’t make the same mistake twice.
What’s been the best part of your success on My Dream Store?
Photographs of people wearing my designs and uploading their photos – I could keep staring at their happiness all day. And I don’t even know them and I haven’t even manufactured or seen or delivered the shirt they’re wearing. All that hectic work is done by My Dream Store, I just sit back and share my ideas with my bunch of people.

What will your next design be about?
I’m considering doing designs for Bikers as I love motorcycle riding a lot.
