Meet our Dream Team – Bhavya Sri

The strength of a team is more than just the sum total of the professional abilities of every team member. Every team player brings with them their own quirks and personality traits which always bring something fresh and unique to the team. It is this which makes a team whole. In this series we will be trying to highlight the inner workings of our team by showcasing the people working behind the scenes at My Dream Store. We are hoping that we will get to know some things about our team mates that we didn’t know earlier. We want to know what makes our teammates tick.

Here it goes! The first interview is with a start of our Tech team Bhavya Sri. We threw her some googlies and this is how she responded.

 Introduce yourself Bhavya!

I am a web developer at My Dream Store and I basically work as a Front-end developer. I was born and brought up in Eluru, in West Godavari district and I did all my schooling and college there. I have completed my B. Tech from Sir C.R.R College of engineering which is affiliated to Andhra University

What is one word you would use to describe yourself as a child?

I would like to use the word “Happy.” My childhood was the most happy and carefree period in my life. As with everybody else, this is the time in our lives when we have no problems, everything around us is so simple and we are so care free. In fact, the best memories of my life are of my school days

If you could change one thing about how you were raised as a child, what would it be?

I was very lucky in many ways and I was very pampered by my parents but that resulted in me never leaving my home. For B. Tech I got a seat in a good college in Vishakhapatnam, but I didn’t want to stay in hostel without my parents. Now I regret it and I feel like I would have had better exposure if I had gone to a bigger city and studied in a good College.

What motivates you the most?

Solving complex problems keeps me excited and so this job is in a way a great job for me. I believe in looking at everything positively and both successes and failure both motivates me equally to do better than before.

Who or what has been the biggest influence in your life?

My father is the wisest and most generous soul I have ever known. He taught me many values and to treat all people with the same degree of respect.

What contribution have you made in your current role?

Since I have come in to My Dream Store 7 months ago, I have worked on to making our website responsive as well as beautiful.

I strongly feel that today, website is the first impression of any company to the end-user. Website aesthetics is very important and I feel that it should be clean, attractive, bug free and user-friendly. On our website users can design products on canvas. I have implemented attractive features on the canvas where users can upload images and apply filters and effects. I have also implemented a feature on the canvas where users can upload their own designs or use our cliparts from different categories and of course get all of these in different colours. I developed ‘My Dream Store University’, which is guide for campaigners containing variety of tips and tricks.

Apart from these, I have been working on minor features, bug fixes and making the site more beautiful.

Please tell us about your team.

JD works on his new Macbook. Bhavya and Arjun reviewing some code

When I was new to the team, my team-mate Arjun, helped me by explaining the code which helped me learn things in an easier and faster manner. He also helps me learn new technologies. I want to thank him a lot for this.

(Arjun! Are you listening?)

Jayadev, or JD as he is known is an Android Developer and within a short time he became friendly with us. He helps us in our work sometimes and gives good suggestions and solutions.

My manager Satish is friendly and he never makes us feel like he is the boss. He helps us solve complex technical problems and gives us time to learn new things. He makes me feel valuable to the company by taking my thoughts and ideas and following them with action. We can discuss our problems easily with him without any fear.

How do you think your co-workers see you?

I hope they see me as a good team player

(Well…we think that she has a deceptively quirky sense of humour which belies her seemingly sweet disposition. She has been seen around office teasing her colleagues with a mischievous twinkle in the eye)

Tell me about a time when you had to solve a problem with very little guidance or direction

First week of joining My Dream Store, I was completely new to the start-up work culture and I didn’t know how quickly things moved. By the second day itself I got tasks assigned to me, which were to be completed within a week with very little guidance from my team members. I was very tensed but I went through the whole code, learned some new things and completed the task within the given time. My hard work paid off when I saw my work in production the next day itself. It was the happiest moment in my work life till now!

Tell us how it is to work for a Start-up?

From the first week itself I learnt that in a start-up we will have that freedom to do a lot of different things, solving new problems, and learning new technologies. The most important thing is that in a start-up, your work will be recognized. We work in a small team and we all strongly feel a very strong ownership for every task, small or big.

What more are you wanting in your career right now?

I want to learn more of backend technologies like PHP.

Tell me about a time when you went overtime on a deadline

With My Dream Store growing tremendously this year, we have to meet tight deadlines almost every month. At first I used to reach only 50 – 60% of my targets. Then I decided to work overtime to push myself to the limit so as to meet my deadline. Now I am able to complete all my targets on time.

If you started your own company, what values would you consider the most important?

I feel that planning is key to any success. I would stress on planning, know-how, commitment and respect for others as the key values in the same order.

What would a “perfect” day look like for you?

A pleasant day with no predefined tasks. Hanging out with my family and friends 🙂

What characteristic do you most admire in others?

What do you like best about Hyderabad?

Compared to where I grew up, Hyderabad has a very good dry climate. It is also a hub for great food. My favourite is Indian and Italian, but no matter which cuisine, all food tastes great here. Also I have my friends and family close by so I just love this city.

If not this, then what work would you be doing?

Believe it or not, I would go the other way and have my own creative business selling my art works, Sketches and Paintings.

Wow! I knew there were many things about you which we didn’t know! Thank you for taking time out and chatting with me!
