Graphic design has a learning curve and we would like to help you get better with some tips and tricks. Here are 5 basic rules to keep in mind.

1. Use contrast to make your designs pop

Juxtaposing contrasting elements in your design will help it stand out. Use contrasting colours for the background and the foreground. A simple rule is that on a lighter coloured background you should use darker fonts and vice-versa.

 2. Choose your fonts with care

Follow the same rule while choosing the fonts for a particular design. Use contrasting fonts for the heading and the subtitle or body. You could pick a font that is grand for the heading, and choose for the subtitle and body, simpler fonts. Make sure the fonts you choose are easy to read!

 3. Pick a colour scheme

Just like you’ve now chosen a font palette, you’ll also want to pick a colour scheme. Start with 2-3 main colours and usually the tool you are using will suggest the rest of the palette.

 4. No naked images

Use appropriate images in your designs to help it stand out. However, if you choose to simply place the images on the background, it will not be as appealing as if you place it within a frame. This is a simple trick which will give your design a professional edge.

5. Keep it simple

Lastly remember, a cluttered design is will overwhelm the senses and not appeal to the viewer. Use every design element frugally and keep the number of fonts, colours, shapes and frames to a minimum.

Check our video tutorial on How to design a T-shirt and launch a campaign!

Success by accident is a rarity. By all means, we can strive towards it. And by putting in all our efforts we can witness ourselves getting lucky. We would help you get there, that’s the whole idea – our conspiracy.

Here is another attempt by us, to help you get what you want – A rocking campaign.

When you want to advertise through Facebook, it presents you with an array of options and you can choose which set of users are your potential clients. The key to success in any campaign is targeting. You can choose to go by interest targeting, name targeting, sports team targeting, profession targeting etc. So here is your chance to choose wisely and save a buck. Do not carpet bomb and waste your money.

Newsfeed ads

The news feed ads were launched by the end of 2012 and then leapt to success. A research shows that the client base increased by 140% in the last quarter of 2013. Now does anyone need to tell us why?If you think that it’s a costly solution consider this – the newsfeed ads have 5 times higher conversion rate than the other conventional methods of advertising. It’s all about the outreach.

Laser targeting

If you have ever used Google ad-words before, you already know what I mean. Google gives you an option to advertise on local websites. So this is your way to target geo-graphically. So all the websites (associated to AdWords), within a particular radius, would be putting up your ad. This helps greatly as you won’t be burning a hole in our pocket to advertise. Second, it brings in the attention of people from one area, which has a greater conversion rate.

Add a streak

It’s good to have different channels to advertise. But, when you put emotions into your campaign you add mileage to it. A lifeless ad can hardly make an impact, even if it’s a big brand on a huge budget. Emotions well placed and well pronounced makes your audience connect to your merchandise and turn them into customers.

Most of the direct and indirect channels of marketing today, come with an additional benefit. And that’s the benefit of engagement. Facebook, Twitter, Plus and others give you the chance to engage with your customers and appreciate their choice. For engagement goes a long way, never refrain from it. Replying, thanking, appreciating, responding, commenting – everything adds to the success of the campaign

Know your stats

Once you launch your campaign and also market it accordingly, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the stats. Any channel you choose to advertise helps you with stats, which will help you calculate your return-on-investment. In fact, I heard from many successful campaigners that it’s addictive – checking the stats of your campaign.  It’s amusing that I am mentioning this point, but it turns out to be important. Your stats are the first indicators of the movement of your campaign. And also the best source to inform you if your campaign was a hit or a flop.

Ideas of scaling up?

If you have been a successful campaigner and if you are on a spree, it’s time for you to scale up. When you are targeting a smaller group or a niche market, you would reach your goal. But the scope is limited. But if you have an idea to scale up, as most of us do, then it would be right for you to target a bigger market, use your learnings and scale up.

You are not married to your campaign

As ironical as it might seem, this is one important aspect that needs a mention. You cannot always catch the pulse of the market. Sometimes bears fly and Eagles crash. And in the true market, some of the best campaigns might fail. In such scenarios, it’s advised to pull out of the market and move ahead with the next campaign.

But before you think of the first point in this article, look back at your campaign and ask yourself these questions –

  • Is my design outstanding?
  • Are the pictures good?
  • Are the colors right?
  • Is it well in time and trend?
  • Am I charging too much?
  • Did I campaign right?

Finally, we reiterate – “The Campaign fails, when you stop trying.”

One dream at a time and that’s how we do it!

That’s right, that’s what we do to turn “a’ campaign into a “dream” campaign. And this journey is fun and adventurous. Now did we mention ‘sluggish’, we did not. For it’s not a late evening walk.

In the last few months we have seen quite a few campaigns. Some took off like targeted missiles while the others landed with a thud. We have to be frank in our submission here, as some campaigns were not necessarily rock-stars on the bill-board. And that left us pondering, when Zig Ziglar came around and said “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

So we set out to pen down what can help you make your campaign a hit, and behold – this is our attempt.

1.    First of all – Speak!

It’s imperative for you to let the people know. If there is a campaign that you have started, go ahead; tell the people that you did. Begin with family and friends and then, may be, move to their family and friends. Make all your attempts and use all the platforms, to let all your contacts know that you have a campaign up in the market, and they can help you rock it.

 2.    Target audience

No rocket science, targeting increases the probability. Based on the campaign, know for yourself who are your target audience. A “beer lover” campaign would not put you in the bar, but behind the bars – if you are trying to lure an under-16 into it. So, know your audience and also help them know your campaign. And gain audience who might turn into your customers.

 3.    Options, options!

The world is diverse. And hence one color, one size, one pattern is not going to make everyone happy. Plan-out combinations. Provide variety, provide choices. You might just come across a guy who would say “Spidey in green &red, that’s exactly what I wanted” – You never know. Hence, provide options – people like that.

 4.    Trends

You might not be someone who sets the trends, but there is no harm in following one. Of course, we have always been advised ‘to make hay while sun shines’. For instance – Presently, it makes more sense to design a theme around football irrespective of your cricket passion.

 5.    Niche

When planning small campaigns, it’s good to target a niche. Focus on the niche groups and their hangout places. Let them know, or even involve them into your campaign. This will help you reach your target sooner.

 6.    Serve, just the right amount.

It’s suggested, to make a good guess of your reach and have a stock based on that. Having an abundant stock and also letting the customers know about it, is not a good idea. Some might say “I need it”but put-off their purchase to the weekend and well, never return.  If the supply is more, the demand seems to go down automatically. Hence, never have too much at hand. A sense of scarcity might help you sell sooner.

 7.    Don’t stop speaking!

It’s not enough to say “campaign” once and expect your campaign to be a hit. You have to let people know that the campaign is very much “alive and kicking”, till the last T-shirt goes off the shelf.  So, the speaking ends with the stocks.

Finally, we want to leave you with a mantra – “The Campaign fails, when you stop trying.”

 Keep dreaming!
